her mother’s wings

Joe the Liar

walks down

busy streets

wonders where

all the dreams

have gone

close my eyes

take me back

run

to that door

that held

our fate

led to bruises

betrayals

she screams

little girl

that she is

as the tide

washes in

drifts her

further apart

from her mother

the sandcastle

collapses

as her mother’s wings

bend inwards

attempt to

bring the little girl

closer to her

only for her wings

to simply catch

brush on air

on the ocean’s current

as the line

washes anew

back into

the sand.
